Saline’s varsity girls tennis team won a share of first place in a quad held at Saline High School and the Saline Rec Center Saturday.

Late in the day, seniors Lindsey Barba and Claire Weadock lifted the Hornets into a tie for first by winning an intense, three-set win to take the third doubles flight. Saline and Farmington Hills Mercy tied for 17 points. Troy Athens and Ann Arbor Greenhills took third and fourth.

“It was a strong showing for the first outing the year,” coach Andrew BeDell said.

The Hornets were led by top flight sophomore Andrea Teofilovic, who went 3-0. In the second flight, Jenny Wolf went 2-1. Junior Carly Hiner went 3-0 in the third flight. Freshman Sophie Dubovy went 2-1 in the fourth flight. Teofilovic, Hiner and Dubovoy won their flights.

In doubles action, Sarah Roberts and Nina Ellsworth went 0-3 in the first flight, despite two terrific matches. In the second flight, Ainsley Caldwell and Brooke Engelhardt went 2-1. In the third flight, Barba and Weadock went 3-0, going to three sets twice to come away with the win. Gisele Jost and Ashlyn Murphey went 2-1 in the fourth flight.
